This class of roofing material is the most popular material installed and includes various types of membranes to choose from and application techniques. Single-ply roofing represents 45% of commercial sales throughout the country with asphalt based products coming in second at 19%. Statewide Roofing has successfully installed millions of square feet roofing installed since 1983 and represents about 65% of roofing installed by our trained mechanics. Single-ply membranes are durable, flexible and have excellent ultraviolet properties that require less maintenance then other low-sloped product’s classes.
The single-ply market consists of two different categories thermosets and thermoplastics and the industry uses various acronyms to describe the products such as:
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer)
PVC (polyvinyl chloride)
TPO (thermoplastic olefin)
Thermoset membranes (EPDM) are compounded from rubber polymers and thermoplastics membranes (PVC and TPO) based on plastic polymers. These membranes are offered in different thicknesses and colors to meets the needs of the facility and the owner’s budget.
Advantages:
- Large pre-manufactured sheet goods that reduce the quantity if seams or laps.
- Coatings are not required or recommended.
- Roof area is completely watertight after each work day, no phasing of multiply plies or incomplete flashing details waiting or products to set-up. Single-ply roofing is an excellent choice for re-roofing occupied facilities.
- Reduced labor cost compared to multi-plied roofing systems. Installed correctly, one-ply is all you need, redundancy only increases cost with no added benefit to the building owner.
